Happiness

Tom mentioned on Monday that about 64% of people in a marriage considered it a "happy" marriage. The book said that most married people are happier than their unmarried counterparts. Tom put these two statistics together to determine that our culture is very sad. However, it only occurred to me later that maybe marital happiness and happiness in general were different. Maybe the people that the book interviewed to determine happiness in reference to married and unmarried people were not thinking of the question in terms of their relationships or singleness. People can be happy in an unhappy marriage because of the satisfaction that their job, kids, or recreational activities give them. And people can be content with being single, but unhappy with the way their life is going.
