Arranged Marriages

According to an article by Madeline Howard, 95% of marriages in India are still arranged. Someone in class mentioned that arranged marriages are much more common. In the article, Howard mentions that "practices of marriage vary greatly across regional boundaries and also between urban and rural areas." She elaborates on how these couples meet each other along with other things. I found it interesting how young the women are when the marriages are arranged; the article mentioned as young as 5 years old. Also, the author describes briefly the risks in not compensating for what the other family wants in the marriage- such as luxury items.
