Chapter 10

Summary:

Chapter 10 in our text discusses the components and expectations of marriage . It explains the reason for communication inside of the intimate bond of marriage also good and bad characteristics. The chapter continued to discuss our expectations for marriage, such as what the typical American marriage rituals are, including the celebration of engagement, love, the use of prenuptial agreements and in addition to the wedding. These also included devitalized marriage, vital marriage, passive congenial marriage, and total marriage. Non-American rituals were also discussed briefly. Chapter 10 continues to discuss for marital success and happiness which cover statistics on whether married couples are actually happy and what is important in a successful marriage. Some of these matters include things such as flexibility, positive attitudes, compatibility, communication, emotional support, conflict resolution, etc. The subsequent section of this chapter discusses how marriage can also be a health issue. This passage begins with talking about the association of health benefits that come from marriage as well as selection and protection effect. Then, it continues to discuss gender and health, including the topics with why husbands are healthy and why wives are less healthy.

Interesting/Unusual Items:

I thought the “Before I Say…I Do" was very enlightening, and I can related to it.

What Happens after the honeymooning is over? After reading all these different chapters do you still think that you’re ready for marriage with all those things we learned that lead to this marriage?
