Chapter 3 The Family in Historical Perspective

Summary:

Chapter 3 discusses the types of families by social and regional differences with describing how they are similar and different. It goes into detail of how the families are structure, the children’s lives, and the husband and wife. It goes on and talks about the husband and wife’s personal relationships, how the economy affects the family, and marriage and divorce. Chapter 3 talks about American history the Colonial Family, Great Depression, World War II, and the Golden Fifties.

New, Interesting, and Unusual items learned:

In the Industrialization, Urbanization, and European Immigration: 1820 to 1930 section of the chapter discusses how the fathers started to loss control over their children. By the 1700 century the families didn’t have enough profits to give as inheritances to their sons, so then the son started to rebel, given the father less authority over their sexual behavior and whom they married. Before the mid 1800 Pregnancy at that time went up to more than 40%, signifying that the parents could not prevent premarital sex.

Discussion:

I would like to discuss different stereotypes within the different families throughout nation.
