Self-sufficient families

In class, we discussed how the self-sufficient family has deteriorated. Unless the family owns its own business, like a pizza shop, the parents are most likely to be employed by someone else. Outside of America, there are many more families that have to be self-sufficient. However, one kind of family common in the United States that provides everything for themselves is the Amish. Most Amish families are heavily involved in farming, so they must rely on their children to help with the work load. It is common for these families to have 7-8 children. Amish tradition involves being secluded from society and not conforming to the worlds' way of life. In turn, the Amish rely on themselves alone for education, food, entertainment, etc.
