Terra Nova and Its Courting Style

If any of you have been watching Terra Nova, you might have seen the way the character Mark Reynolds is going about dating Maddy Shannon. For those of you who do not watch this new series (in which case you have no clue what you are missing out on) the courting style is very much old school. Before Mark goes about ever asking Maddy to go on a date he asks her father, and in one of the most recent episodes he just asked her father if he could have her intentions, meaning if he could wait until the proper time and marry her. Knowing how much of an impact television has on society, it makes me wonder if more people will begin dating in this manner again. If this style begins to appeal to more people I think it would only have a positive impact on society. This teaches the boy/man not only the courage it takes to enter a new stage of a relationship, but also respect. Society is lacking respect; no one has respect for their elders, their peers, or even the future of society. This thought is actually quite scary because if society stays on this track, there could be major issues in the future and no one having respect for anyone and/or anything, thus leading this society into self destruction. Do you think this old-fashioned style of courting will slowly pick up popularity if it is seen in more television programs as well? Do you think that this style of courting will also help society advance and perhaps change some major problems that we face?
